Methodology
The GreeScore is a 0–100 health decision score, computed locally, deterministically and transparently. Every score can be explained.
Score composition
The score combines several criteria families, weighted then renormalized over the data actually available:
- Nutrition (40%) — authoritative Nutri-Score or, failing that, a derived model (sugars, salt, saturated fat, fiber, protein) with category-aware thresholds.
- Processing (25%) — NOVA group (NOVA 4 heavily penalized).
- Additives & risks (15%) — additive severity, palm oil. Unknown ingredient list = bucket excluded, never “additive-free”.
- Naturality (10%) — organic (meaningful but capped bonus), clean label, fair trade.
- Fit with your criteria (10%) — active criteria only; halal never enters it (compatibility only).
- Environment (10%) — Green-Score, only when available.
Fairness rules
- NOVA 4 (ultra-processed) receives a heavy penalty.
- Organic brings a significant bonus but never turns an ultra-processed, nutritionally poor product into an excellent one.
- Halal is a personal compatibility criterion, never a nutritional quality criterion.
- Missing data lowers confidence in the score, never the score itself: unknown is not treated as negative.
Data confidence
Every result shows a confidence level based on data completeness: Nutri-Score, ingredients and nutrition facts availability. A poorly documented product shows “partial data” rather than a bad score.
